If you have a friend or loved one on the military, let them do your shopping. They get some seriously good deals just for flashing their military ID. In fact, there are whole websites dedicated to showing military personnel where to save, like military.com/deals and armytimes.com. Here are a few highlights.
- Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic, and the Gap all offer 10% to 15% discounts. Restrictions vary, but it’s a pretty consistent deal.
- Amtrak and Greyhound both offer military discounts, and American Airlines has a “Military Appreciation Fare Sale” that extends to the end of 2015 for active duty personnel on leave or furlough.
- All kinds of restaurants offer discounts, from Carl’s Jr. to Subway.
- There are a hundred and one different theme parks and attractions that offer military discounts, from Disneyland to Universal Studios, all across the country.
There are tons of others too. All you have to do is ask. It’s a great big “thank you for serving” and you should take advantage of it.
