Elon Musk is a leader that has had many successful businesses. He has a leadership style that is different from the traditional model of management. Here are 5 tips to manage an effective team for your business.
Here’s an example of a question I’m often asked:
“What is Maverick?” says the narrator.
A maverick, according to Dictionary.com, is a lone dissenter who takes an independent stance separate from his or her peers, such as an intellectual, an artist, or a politician. As a result, a Maverick is a rebel, an individualist, a free thinker, and an outcast.
If you have a rebellious spirit or like disrupting traditional policies or ideas, you are most likely a Maverick!
So when we add the word “Think” to the word “Maverick” to create Think Maverick, we mean it! We want everyone who visits thinkmaverick.com to Think Like A Maverick!
Why Is It Important To Think Like A Maverick?
Maverick Thinkers are the World’s Best Entrepreneurs, Artists, Actors, Actresses, and Athletes…. Consider the possibilities!
- After being fired from his own business, Steve Jobs would not have attempted a return…
- Bill Gates, Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Bruce Lee, and Anthony Robbins, to name a few…. Just a few examples.
I won’t go into depth here since I’ve written a separate post on “What is a Maverick?”
Elon Musk, out of all the successful Maverick Thinkers, piqued my interest the most. That is the MAIN reason why Elon Musk, the world’s most maverick billionaire, was chosen as our ThinkMaverick Magazine Logo on iTunes!
So, over the next eight days, I’m going to tell you about some of his greatest and worst hidden secrets!

“You are your business, and the team you acquire is your company!”
The most significant benefit of hiring the appropriate team is that your workload is almost reduced since they are aware of your expectations. A team that is as passionate and enthusiastic as its creator can always reach new heights.
Elon Musk is well-known for his arduous schedule and unwavering dedication to his cause. If you still believe it could have been accomplished by a single guy, you are mistaken.
Musk is well-supported by his staff, who share his passion and zeal. You cannot plan to construct a rocket to Mars or to start a vehicle that runs on electricity unless you have a team that is willing to take risks and trust in you.
Elon, for the most part, selects his own squad. He would often be present in the interviewing panel when the applicant was being chosen. This was the only way he was able to assemble a group of like-minded people that could afford to collaborate with Elon’s idea.
A manager may be anybody, but not everyone can lead. Leadership is something that one earns, not something that one is given.
Your workers would look up to you in a variety of ways, whether it was for your leadership or your guidance. Make sure you’re constantly available to them. Assist them and guide them in the direction you want them to go.
In an interview, Elon Musk said that a CEO must realize that his workers are not there to serve him. In essence, the leader should be the one who works harder than his peers.
Elon has earned a spot on Glassdoor’s list of the year’s highest-ranking CEOs, and he has every right to be there. Despite his demanding work schedules, his workers consistently give their all for him as a leader and their faith in his ideas.
You are, in a sense, attempting to address one of the world’s issues as an entrepreneur. To get there, you’ll need to build a devoted fan base that believes in you.
The individuals who work under you and the end consumers for whom the product is designed should be inspired by you and your ideas more frequently than not. Here isn’t a simple task, but believe us when we say that this is where your charisma and leadership agility come into play.
Even though Musk had a difficult upbringing, he was able to use it to his advantage and develop a significant degree of adult charm. According to him, you may be a real inspiration if every person under you believes that they are joining together to create something fresh for the future rather than just working.
Elon Musk’s offices are always enjoyable to work in, despite the grueling schedules and demands. His motivation is what propels them forward, and it is this that motivates them to collaborate with him.
In any company, never assume that the more people you employ, the faster you’ll achieve results. This is a critical mistake that many new businesses make when they initially start out.
Only ability, not numbers, can provide you with the required result. Hiring the appropriate individuals with the proper skillsets for the job may make all the difference.
These individuals are one-of-a-kind and always stand out in a crowd. You must keep an eye out for these individuals and ensure that they are a member of your team.
When Elon was operating his software business, he discovered this the hard way. He recognized that employing additional programmers for the task would put him in a bind, while hiring that one brilliant programmer would make all the difference that the others couldn’t.
Always nurture brilliance and keep that special group of people who go to tremendous lengths. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to finding the appropriate individuals. It occurs as a result of personal experience.
Taking a lesson from the preceding point, you should never believe that just the most skilled people are required to make your business a success. You’ll also need a personality to go with it.
You can only go to a certain point with skill and talented people. Only individuals with the appropriate attitude and character can go above and above for your business and make it respected.
Elon’s original goal was to recruit only the most brilliant individuals. However, he quickly discovered that just these gifted individuals are seldom enough to get the desired result.
Despite the skill pool he controlled, Elon always had the feeling that something was wrong with the job. His frequent interactions with individuals like these taught him what it was.
It was a person’s Integrity and Humility!
The person’s integrity and humility are what distinguish him as a wonderful individual. Of course, this can only be discovered via relationships and experience, not through a CV.
You would never want a gifted someone who steals from you or is motivated by nefarious motives. In every company, finding the appropriate individual who shares your passion is a must.
“In general, the greatest error I’ve made is putting too much emphasis on a person’s ability and not enough on their personality. And it’s something I’ve done several times. It truly does matter to me whether or not someone has a decent heart. I’ve made the error of believing that it’s all about the brain at times.”
