To have your book published, you no longer need to go through gatekeepers who stand at the doors of conventional publishing companies. For the first time, you have complete control over your work and may publish it through major online stores.

One of the greatest things that has ever occurred to us is the ability to publish books online.
“It enables us to remain at home and do the things we like, such as going to the movies on a Wednesday afternoon, lounging around when I don’t feel like working, and traveling throughout Europe for months.
We could do anything we wanted since our 500+ books continued to sell on Amazon while we were gone.” Winson is a fictional character.
All of this is made possible through Amazon’s book publishing platform.
1. With an 80% market share, Amazon controls the eBook business.
2. Amazon is the world’s biggest retail search engine. People come to the site with the intention of making a purchase.
Simply stated, surfers go to Google, whereas purchasers go to Amazon. You don’t want to lose out on these ready-to-buy customers eager to read your book.
3. Amazon is a marketing behemoth. You can get Amazon to market your books for free if you understand how it works.
For example, if you sell a certain amount of volumes in a week, Amazon will recommend your book to a new audience who may be interested in it.
4. It’s very simple to publish on Amazon. It takes 2-12 hours from the time you submit your material to the time your book is published!

Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is Amazon’s platform for publishing and managing Kindle eBooks and paperbacks. It’s free, fast, and simple to create a KDP account.
1. Go to https://kdp.amazon.com and choose “sign up” from the drop-down menu.
2. You have the option of using your current Amazon account or creating a new KDP account.
3. Click “Create account” after providing your name, email address, and password.
4. After that, you must change your account and tax details.
Important: Your tax information must be completed. If you don’t finish this stage, you won’t be able to publish your first book.
5. When you’ve finished entering your tax information, click “Finished.”
6. You’re done. Your KDP account has been successfully established.
Let’s get started on submitting your first book to Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform.
The key to enticing prospective readers to engage with your book is to have a fantastic title. As a result, your book title should be enticing, intriguing, and related to the content of your book.
To create a new Kindle ebook, go to “Bookshelf” in your KDP dashboard and select “+ kindle eBook.”
You’ll need to provide your book’s title and subtitle. A subtitle is optional, however it should be included if your book is part of a series or if your title requires additional information.
Here are some pointers on how to come up with a fantastic book title that sells:
- To improve discoverability, use relevant keywords:
Always do keyword research on your Kindle to see what words or terms people are really looking for. Once you have this information, you can use the most important keyword in your title to ensure that your book appears on the first page of the search results.
The more searchable your book is, the simpler it will be for consumers to discover it when they explore Amazon, and the more copies you will sell.
A strong book hook may immediately capture your readers’ attention and make them exclaim, “Wow…I need to read this.” It’s an excellent method to get prospective readers to check out your book, learn more about it, and, ideally, purchase it.
Your prospective readers will be curious about the benefits of reading your book. One tried-and-true method is to include a subtitle to complement your book title, offer additional relevant information, and pique their curiosity.
Your book description is your sale text if your book is your product.
And your book description is more than just a synopsis; it’s your opportunity to get your target readers to click the “Look Inside” button and fulfill their curiosity.
People will often base their purchasing decisions almost completely on the description of your book. As a result, you should devote some effort to creating a captivating book description.
Here are some pointers to help you create a compelling book description:
- Make your book description stand out and scan-friendly by using HTML code.
- From the first sentence, the reader is hooked.
- Tell readers what they may expect from the book.
- Use a hidden language that your target audience may understand.
- Keep it brief and sweet while making an emotional connection.
- To improve your book’s rating, use relevant keywords.

Keep in mind that Amazon is more of a search engine than an internet retailer.
You’ll need to utilize the appropriate keywords to get your book to rank well and sell more books on Amazon. Each title may include up to seven keywords.
There are a few search engines that may assist you in determining the ideal keywords for your books:
- The easiest method to see what phrases or keywords customers are really looking for and ready to pay for is to use Amazon’s Autofill search box. The disadvantage is that it takes a long time. To discover the most relevant terms for your genre, you must go through the search one by one.
- Keyword Suggestion Tool by Google
When it comes to finding keywords for my novels, this is my go-to tool. With a single click of the button, you’ll be able to discover suitable terms. It’s also completely free to use!
Choosing the appropriate categories, like keywords, will have a big effect on your book sales. Your goal is to find relevant, high-demand, yet low-competition categories in which to place your book in the Top 100 Kindle books.

Make sure your manuscript is stored in a supported kindle format before submitting it to KDP.
To format your material, you don’t need to utilize any complex tools.
Using the Microsoft Word Doc/DOCx format is the simplest method to create your eBook. I use Microsoft Word for all of my Kindle eBooks, so I have no problems with the submission.
You may simply submit your content file to your KDP account once it’s ready. To begin uploading your manuscript file, go to your Kindle eBook Content page and choose “Upload eBook manuscript.”
You may preview your uploaded file after your manuscript submission is complete.
Go through the file page by page to see how your readers will see your book when they click inside. Look for any typos, grammatical problems, or formatting issues. You may edit and re-upload the file as many times as you like until you’re happy with the final result.
You’ll see that there’s a Digital Rights Management option (DRM).
DRM is a collection of functions that safeguard copyrighted content by preventing readers from copying or converting them to other forms.
If you don’t want your eBook to be distributed without your permission, choose “Yes.” Even if you opt to disable DRM on your eBook, users may still lend it to another user for a short time.
Click “No” if you don’t mind people sharing your book.
Before you activate DRM, keep in mind that your readers will only be able to read it on a Kindle device, not any other. As a result, I opt out of DRM for the majority of my publications.
Important: Once you’ve published your book, you won’t be able to alter the DRM settings.
Here are three key factors that influence book sales on Amazon:
- Cover of a book
- description of the book
First impressions are very important in the publishing industry since they are what consumers see first when shopping on Amazon.
A beautiful book cover can help you pique the interest of prospective readers. Guess what? No one will want to read your book if the cover design is bad and amateurish, no matter how good the content is.
If you’re a beginner with a limited budget, freelancers on Fiverr, Upwork, and Deviantart can help you out. However, if at all feasible, I would advise you to make your own cover utilizing the designs and resources available here.
I’ve put together a step-by-step tutorial on how to design book covers that sell.
KDP Select is an exclusive loyalty club for writers that is available as an option. It opens us new opportunities to reach a larger audience and earn more royalties.
You’ll have access to two excellent Kindle promotional tools if you join the program: a 5-day free promotion and a Kindle countdown offer. The caveat is that you can’t sell your eBook anywhere else online during the 90-day exclusive digital agreement.
That implies there will be no Nook store, Barnes & Noble store, Smashwords store, Draft2Digital shop, Kobo store, and so forth. It’s all about Amazon.
If you’re still undecided about whether to join the KDP exclusive program, have a look at this KDP or KDP Select guide: Which one is the best fit for you?
Publishers may select whether they wish to earn a 35 percent or 70 percent royalty on each book sold via KDP. You must price your book between $2.99 and $9.99 to get a 70% royalty. You must price your book between $0.99 and $2.98 to qualify for the 35 percent royalty option.
Here are four things to think about when setting pricing for your Kindle ebooks:
- Your book’s length
Size counts, even if bigger isn’t always better. You won’t want to charge $9.99 for a 20-page book. You’ll want to provide your consumers good value at a fair price.
2. Your genre’s average pricing
For your first book, you should aim for a price that is comparable to the average in your category.
3. Take into account the competition
To determine the optimum pricing for your eBooks, do market research on your rivals. Is your book longer than mine? Is there anything better in your book?
4. Play around with it.
On KDP, changing your pricing is extremely simple. To boost your book sales, you may use a variety of pricing and methods.
When you’re happy with all of the options and price, click “Publish your Kindle eBook”!
Now take a seat and unwind.
Once your book is officially published and available for sale on Amazon, you’ll get an email confirmation from Amazon KDP.
